Henry: God’s Sword

“[The wicked] are God’s sword, which He can manage as He pleases, which cannot move without Him, and which He will sheathe when He has done His work with it… [The Psalmist] therefore expects deliverance from God’s hand because from God’s hand the trouble came. Una eademque manus vulnus opemque tulit – The same hand wounds and heals. There is no flying from God’s hand but by flying to it.”

– Matthew Henry, commentary on Psalm 17
